Hydrotherapy or aquatic physiotherapy on the Sunshine Coast

How can aquatic physiotherapy help you?

Aquatic physiotherapy is a tool often used by therapists to improve strength, walking ability and balance in people with neurological conditions.

Research supports the use of aquatic physiotherapy in people with Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Cerebral Palsy, after a stroke and to reduce the falls risk in the elderly.

What is aquatic therapy?

Aquatic physiotherapy, also known as aquatic therapy or hydrotherapy, is a form of physiotherapy that takes place in a heated pool or another aquatic environment.

It involves exercises and activities in the water that are designed to help you recover from injury or manage a variety of physical conditions.

What are the benefits?

The buoyancy of water can reduce the stress on the joints and muscles, making it less painful for you to move and exercise. The resistance of the water also provides a gentle but effective form of resistance training, which can help improve strength and endurance.

Where do you do aquatic physiotherapy?

We can meet you at various local, heated pools for individual aquatic physiotherapy,  or you may have your own pool that is suitable. If you would like us to help you with aquatic physiotherapy, we can work with you to find the pool most suitable to your needs.

What if I can’t get in and out of the water on my own?

We use pools with a variety of access options. Some pools have a ramp, others have a ramp and wheelchair while some pools use electric hoists.

Our staff can work with you to find the best pool for your needs and assist you in getting in and out of the pool.
